TAK-HACK - Hacking the Human Machine Interface for Military and First Responders!
TAK-HACK 2025 is a three-day tactical innovation hackathon bringing together veterans, active service ADF members, university students, engineers and software developers, tech innovators, and startup teams to solve real-world operational challenges using the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) platform.
What is TAK?
The Team Awareness Kit (TAK), for civilian uses, or Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) for military uses is a suite of software that provides situational awareness tools, geospatial information and many other application that allows for a tremendous level of user collaboration. There are numerous TAK Products in the TAK family, developed by the US DoD, other non-defence organisations and individuals.
The primary TAK family of services include TAK server (Linux), WinTAK (Windows), ATAK (Android), and iTAK (Apple).
The Android Team Awareness Kit was originally developed by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and is now maintained by a Joint Product Center.
ATAK (including CivTAK) is an Android smartphone geospatial infrastructure and situational awareness app. It allows for precision targeting, surrounding land formation intelligence, situational awareness, navigation, and data sharing.
